Vassiliki (Celia) Vasilopoulou, fisheries biologist PhD, is a Research Director at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research. Since 2009, she has been involved in research projects dealing with Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP), with special focus on exploring the impacts of human activities on marine ecosystems. She had also a leading role in projects dealing with the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, striving to reconcile policy-making needs in environmental protection with the
provision of the appropriate scientific advise. She is a member of the HCMR core team in the BlueMed Initiative’s Coordination and Support Action, that deals with exploring Blue Growth applications in the
Mediterranean. She is the co-author of more than 150 scientific publications in international scientific journals and conferences, and has chaired/moderated dedicated sessions of international conferences and working meetings. She has been an invited speaker in international scientific events, and provides lectures in postgraduate courses of the Departments of Biology of the Universities of Athens and Thessaloniki. She is a member of international scientific organizations, such as the American Fisheries Society (AFS) and the IUCN-Commission of Ecosystem Management (CEM), and of national (Greek) administrative bodies (Fisheries Council, Ministry of Rural Development and Food).
