Sofia Avgerinou-Kolonia is Architect Engineer – PhD, Urban Planner and Full Professor of the Urban and Regional Planning Department in the School of Architecture and Director of the Laboratory of Spatial Planning and Urban Development of NTUA. She served as member of : the Scientific Committee of the Urban Planning Studies ,of the Permanent Committee of Urban and the Regional Planning, elected member of the Scientific Committee of Architects and the General Assembly of Engineers of the Technical Chamber of Greece and currently President of the Association of Greek Urbanists and Planners (SEPOX). She is elected Vice-President of the ICOMOS Hellenic National Committee, Member, of the ICOMOS Board 2008,2011,2014 and President of the International Scientific Committee on Historic Towns and Villages – CIVVIH.
Sofia Avgerinou Kolonias was the scientific responsible in 31 research programmes upon the following research fields: Issues in the analysis and planning of historical centers, historic cities and settlements, development problems and planning in urban areas, urban tourism, development prospects of areas which combine ecological and cultural special features. She is the author or co-author and editor of numerus scientific publications, conferences proceedings and other scientific meetings.
Her recent research activity includes the coordination of the project “ENPI CBCMED_CROSS _BORDER COOPERATION IN THE MEDITERRANEAN: MEDNETA – Mediterranean cultural network to promote creativity in the arts, crafts and design for communities regeneration in historical cities” (2013-2015) and the ongoing project SUpporting maritime spatial Planning in the Eastern Mediterranean/ SUPREME (2017-2018)
